Throwback: Training Camp // May 2014

I flew into Atlanta, Georgia one day before the man hike because I couldn’t get a flight the day of TC. I stayed the night with one of my squadmates’ brother in ATL. During that day before I met up with everyone I was absolutely terrified of actually going through with this experience. I was deluding myself believing that I am 100% on board with abandoning everything that I am comfortable with.

That first night, I tried to come up with the most reasonable excuse as to why I had to go home. But none of them were plausible. In the morning I got my ride to the airport (grudgingly) to wait for all of the other guys so we can start our man hike. Then one by one they arrived, each bringing a little of something that the Lord wanted me to have. From the finesse of servanthood to the obvious mark of contagious grace. These men showed me why I was supposed to be here.

Then 3 days later I met the women I would spend the next 326 days with across the world. They created a space of home and the idea of worthiness. Training camp commenced with my head in the right place after I met these people. Then 7 days later I was back in that airport again as a completely different person.

Before I was unmotivated to get outside of my house and after I was driven to be Jesus’ light. Before I felt unequipped but after I was prepared. Training Camp does more than train you for the world. It helps you find the keys to the doors inside of you that should have been open the whole time.

After witnessing my first Training Camp not as a future Racer I knew that the Lord wanted me to reflect on my last year one month at a time. Once a month I’m going to share specifically my reflections from pre-Race to post-Race. I want to show you where the Lord has brought me and how I am applying His word now.

If you feel called to donate to what I am doing after the Race, please click the Support Me! button and I would love to be in a close relationship with you as my partner! I love you.
